Cenovus Shares Key Projects at a Land Innovation Forum
On Monday, April 14, 2014, Cenovus Energy Inc. hosted its first Land Innovation Forum to present some of the key project contributions it’s made to the COSIA Land Environmental Priority Area (EPA).
The event took place on the 54th floor of THE BOW. Over 70 people from Cenovus and other COSIA member companies attended to hear presentations on the projects, ask questions and participate in discussions. It was also an occasion for company technical and subject matter experts to meet, exchange ideas and identify new opportunities for collaboration to improve environmental performance.
Cenovus staff gave presentations on the projects they have underway in the areas of front end planning and design, oil sands exploration footprint and linear deactivation as it relates to caribou. Some of the projects discussed included:
- SkyStratTM drilling rig – an innovation that allows a drilling rig to be flown into a remote location one piece at a time. Since everything is flown in, no roads are needed, which limits disturbance of the forest.
- Linear Deactivation (LiDea) – a project to help protect and restore wildlife habitat in northern Alberta by returning older disturbed areas to their natural state.
Our hope for the Land Innovation Forum was to spark conversations that will foster new ideas and opportunities for collaboration and sharing, said event host Cal Clark, Senior Specialist in Terrestrial Ecology at Cenovus.
We all face the challenge of having limited time and resources, but by bringing the right people together we can focus on finding the best ways to move environmental performance forward.
